Boats then glide under the iron-green Memorial Bridge to 'Memorial Bridge Pier'. Opened by King Rama VII in 1932 as the second bridge across Chao Phraya River in Bangkok and to commemorate the 150-year anniversary of Rattanakosin. Every night except Wednesday starting around 7pm, this area has turned into Night Riverside Flea Market jammed pack with several hundred stalls selling ready-to-wear clothes and accessories both brand new and second-hand. The price is known to be lower than Chatuchak Weekend Market. This pier also leads to the colorful   Pak Khlong Market and the Little India neighborhood. Public longtails from this landing stage make inexpensive runs up Thonburi canals.Adjacent to Pak Klong Market, 'Rachini Pier' also services shuttle boats crossing to the Thonburi attractions of Santa Cruz Church and Wat Kalayanamit. Adventurous visitors can enjoy a short walk from the pier through the winding alleys of the Old Portuguese Quarter. Santa Cruz Church was originally constructed by Portuguese Catholics after the fall of Ayuthaya, it was reconstructed in 1913. Note its distinctive narrow profile and towering cupola. Next to the church is Wat Kalayanamit, an immense temple which shelters an equally gigantic Buddha. Wat Kalayanamit is one of the five temples built in Bangkok by King Rama III. With an easy access to the river provided by the new skytrain, now travelers who stay in the city center can have a chance to try one of the highlights of any visit to Bangkok, a boat cruise along the Chao Praya River. Actually we did just that. Our feature story will tell you how to beat Bangkok's traffic and enjoy the sightseeing along the river with the complimentary of wonderful breeze on your face. Sathorn to banglampoo Taking a newly developed Sky Train BTS to 'Saphan Taksin Station'. Before hop on to the Chao Phraya Express boat, where the pier 'Sathorn Pier' is right under the Sky Train station, try walking up the Taksin Bridge to get a good glimpse of Chao Phraya River and the city along side. After a good look of the river, catch the standard river express boat, the one with no flag, which will stop at every desinated pier and it is the only one stopping at 'Pra Arthit Pier' (the closest pier to Banglampoo and Khaosan Road). For no mistake, catch the boat going to the north direction. The Express pier is the one on the left of the Taksin Bridge. Take the map from the toll booth or get the Chao Phraya Express boat map here so you know where you're going. Once on board, hang around at the rear end, which can be very crowded during rush hours, give you a good look on both sides of the river. Walk further inside can give you seats with a view and a shelter from the sun. Fare is 6 Baht from 'Sathorn Pier' to 'Pra Arthit Pier'. Ready on the boat, leaving Taksin Bridge on the right side is the Shangri-La Hotel complex. The Venetian-style adjacent to the hotel is the East Asiatic Company, built in 1901, this church's Rococo interior features a high, vaulted ceiling and a striking marble altar from France. A Night on Chao Phraya

A cruise along Chao Phraya River at night is one of the best scenic river cruise in the world. Many interesting sights along Chao Phraya have been lit up and given you and opportunity to open up fresh vistas impossible to experience in the day time. Several restaurants and hotels along the river provide several cruises to choose from. Pretty much all of them will be dinner cruises and most of them will run a trip from Krungthon Bridge at the north end to Rama IX Bridge and back. The dinner cruise will start around 19:00 or 20:00 and take between 2-3 hours to finish. To get on board, there is a service fee of 70 Baht a person. Meal Prices are normal with no extra charge. You probably end up paying between 300-500 Baht a person for the meal. Some of the cruises with have a Food Set which will cost you at least 600 Baht a person. I don't recommend this kind of cruises unless you absolutely have no idea what so ever on how to order Thai food. We have picked a  'River Side Bangkok Dinner Cruise' located right at the north end of the cruise's route, Krungthon Bridge. The place is a bit obscure. Call the restaurants and ask for the direction from where you stay. River Side Bangkok operates a largest dinner cruises on Chao Phraya River. With a length, from bow to stern, of 64 m. and 12 m. beam, port to starboard, the cruise can accommodate up to 800 passengers and guests. The air-conditioned lower deck has a 400 seats capacity as does the open air rooftop terrace where guests are treated to startling cityscape and riverside views. Ko Kret

Ko Kret or Kret Island is in Nonthaburi province which is far 45 minutes north of Bangkok.Nonthaburi is situated in a fertile basin on the bank of the Chao Phraya River. This abundant town is full of fruit and flower plantations with a popular fruit festival held annually between April and June. as well as historical temples. The town is only 20 kms. from Bangkok and is conveniently accessible by road or river. So close to central Bangkok that it is considered part of the metropolitan area. Its close links with Ayutthaya can be seen in many of the old temples, while a small Mon community has settled on Kret Island, where they continue the Mon tradition of fine pottery.This small island in the Chao Phraya River is home to a Mon community, famed for their architectural style and distinctive style of terracotta pottery which dates back many centuries. The community works hard to maintain its Mon identity and have managed to retain the skills of their forefathers. Ko Kret pots are known for their fine, red-black glazed surface and intricate design. Pottery shops line the road around the island, including the Ancient Mon Pottery Centre with its collection valuable terracotta items and other Mon accessories, where you can find beautiful earthenware pots in a unique style.
